WHAT IS DIRECT AIR CAPTURE?

OUR VISION:

A cost and energy efficient CO2 capture method

In the long term, we plan to capture CO2 directly from the ambient air and store it securely for decades to come. We are also planning on producing electricity throughout the capture process. This will not only be considered clean energy, but what we like to call "net-negative energy". This new type of energy will eventually be produced via supercritical CO2 and the excess heat from the chemical reactions used to capture the CO2.

WHAT WE BUILT:

PROTOTYPE NO. 1

Prototype No 1 is currently our main and only functioning prototype. It captures CO2 from the air and transforms it into a solid which will be used in our future prototypes to neutralize and store the CO2 securely. It is the first step towards "Net-Negative energy".

We are a team of students based in La Prairie, a small city near Montreal, in Quebec. Since September 2021, we have been partnering with our school, Jean de la Mennais, to make our dream come true. We have been envisioning the idea for over a year now and are currently working on prototyping.

WHAT WE ARE TESTING:

The Mini Carbon Capture Machine (MCCM)

The MCCM is smaller than Prototype No 1, yet crucial to test our new ideas and concepts. We are trying some techniques that could save us time and money in the future. Furthermore, although this system is very rudimentary, it helps us a great deal in achieving greater efficiency and aids us in having a better system overall. It will also help us test the feasibility of electricity production associated with the exothermic reactions of our system.

THE FUNDING:

WHY HELP US?

We are in the first steps of our dream. Although the feasibility has been demonstrated, we need funding to pursue our goal, to remove CO2 from the air and to test our step 2 and 3 of our three step process (see Prototypes page). Furthermore, it will allow us to expand our technology and have a greater and better impact on the climate.
